Phase 1

HR Interview

The HR interview will focus on your background, previous experiences, and personal motivation. We will explore your academic and professional journey, key achievements, and the skills and qualities you have developed along the way. In addition, we will discuss your motivation for pursuing a career in private equity and your interest in Verdane specifically, including your understanding of our strategy, culture, and values.

Intelligence Test

The conversation will be competency-based and interactive, with an emphasis on understanding your drive, long-term ambitions, and overall fit with the team.

Phase 2

Technical Interview

The technical interview will focus on core fundamentals in accounting, valuation, and basic private equity concepts. The discussion will be interactive and will emphasise your understanding and reasoning rather than detailed memorisation.

Commercial Case Interview

You will be presented with a short company case covering the business model, market and competitive landscape, as well as selected historical and forecast financial information. Based on this, you will be asked to assess whether the opportunity represents an attractive investment. The case will be run in an interactive, consulting-style format. You will have 30 minutes of individual preparation time prior to the discussion, and no materials are required in advance.

Phase 3

Final Interview Principal or Director

Path to a full-time role

Most internships do not lead directly to full-time roles. That said, exceptional performers with relevant experience may be considered for an Analyst position.

Criteria for an Analyst offer

  • 12 months of completed internship experience
  • Sponsorship from a Partner in the relevant Thematic who knows the candidate’s work

  • Strong feedback from the end-of-internship review process

  • Successful completion of a technical interview

  • Final interview with a Partner or Principal not previously familiar with the intern

Analyst hires start with a dedicated Thematic mentor and a clear growth plan. Typical time-to-promotion to Associate is 1–2 years.

“Verdane has been an extraordinary place to grow, both as a person and as a leader. I joined
as an intern in 2016 and have spent close to ten years building my career here. Along the way, I have had the privilege of learning from some of the most ambitious and inspiring people in the private equity industry. If you are considering applying for an internship, I can genuinely say that you will be fully integrated in the team, working on real projects and getting a true glimpse of what the world of private equity looks like.”

Frequently asked questions

When can I apply?

We have applications open in April for a January start, and in September for a September start the following year.

How long is the programme?

In the Nordics, internships typically last 9–12 months. In the UK and DACH regions they are 6 months. Exact dates vary by role.

Which offices hire interns?

We hire across six offices: Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, London, Berlin and Munich. Availability varies by team and intake period.

What does the interview process involve?

Five stages: Intelligence Test, HR interview, two case interviews (Tech and Commercial), and a final interview with a Principal or Director. There are three decision points before an offer is extended.

Can an internship lead to a full-time role?

Possibly — but this is not the default expectation. We benchmark no more than 20% of interns moving into permanent roles. See the “Path to a full-time role” section above for full criteria.

What background do I need?

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, finance, engineering, economics or a related field, with at least two relevant prior internships. Drive, curiosity and comfort with modern tools matter greatly.
